My teaching philosophy centres on creating a supportive, anxiety-free ‘safe space’ where students feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of making mistakes, as negative emotions can hinder language learning; I therefore respect students’ comfort levels, prioritise practical oral communication through a balanced mix of approximately 40% speaking, 40% vocabulary and 20% grammar, and avoid excessive corrections that disrupt fluency and confidence. From the beginning, I work collaboratively with students to establish clear goals and regularly monitor their progress, encouraging self-reflection and ownership of their development, while enriching lessons with idiomatic expressions and interesting facts about the English language and English-speaking cultures to make learning engaging and authentic.
